The Namesake

This afternoon I went to the movies for the first time in a longtime. The friend I was with had already seen the movie but was willing and in fact wanted to see the movie again.

The movie is the story of two generations of Indians (from India) and the intricate and wonderfully complex and rich dynamics of their relationships. I loved watching the changes and maturation of each of the characters.

Gogol the son finally understands the reason for his name and appreciates the life changing experience of his father which lead his dad to give him the name. This is a powerful story of family and it portrays each character with depth and compassion.

I loved the film.

What a wonderful write-up on the movie! You really put it succinctly, and caught the warmth of the film with your words. Good movies come few and far between. Thanks so much for sharing your feelings about it, and for sharing the experience with me.
